Peak summer. 20–34°C. Bring sunscreen, a hat, and light fabrics. The sun is strong.
Getting Around
We recommend renting a car for the drive to Stellenbosch — it's 45 minutes on the N2 and gives you flexibility to explore the Winelands. Uber is also available if you prefer not to drive.
Book Ahead
Restaurants and experiences in January fill up fast. Book at least 2–3 days in advance for the best spots.
Allow a full day. Table Mountain (cable car or hike — book in advance), Boulders Beach penguins, the V&A Waterfront, and Camps Bay for sundowners. January is peak summer — the city is alive and stunning.
The Franschhoek Wine Tram is one of the best ways to spend a day in the Winelands — a hop-on, hop-off tram and bus route winding through the valley stopping at a dozen wine estates. Book in advance, go early, and pace yourself. It fills up fast in January.
Aquila Private Game Reserve is the closest Big Five safari to the Winelands — about 2 hours from Stellenbosch. Most people say it's the highlight of their trip. Book directly with Aquila well in advance for January.
One of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. Take the cable car or hike — both give jaw-dropping views of Cape Town, the Atlantic, and the Peninsula. Book the cable car online well in advance for January.
A mountain reserve right on the edge of town with trails ranging from a gentle walk to full-day hikes into spectacular fynbos scenery. Early morning is best before the heat. One of the most accessible nature reserves in the Western Cape.
Cape Town's most glamorous beach — white sand, palm trees and the Twelve Apostles mountains as a backdrop. The strip of bars and restaurants is perfect for sundowners. January sunsets here are something else.
Cape Town's iconic working harbour — the best place to eat, shop and people-watch. Dozens of restaurants, the Two Oceans Aquarium, and views of Table Mountain across the water. Perfect combined with a Cape Town day trip.
Most guests are flying from Johannesburg, Lagos, or London. Cape Town International (CPT) is your airport. Stellenbosch is 45 minutes from the airport on the N2.
Important — Tuesday Evening
Tuesday moves across two venues. We are providing a shuttle between the two venues — you do not need to drive yourself. We are also organising shuttles back to nearby hotels after the evening. For getting to Stellenbosch from Cape Town, we recommend renting a car — Stellenbosch is 45 minutes on the N2. Do not drink and drive.
Your airport is Cape Town International (CPT). From Johannesburg it's a direct 2-hour flight. From Lagos, most routes connect via Johannesburg or Nairobi. From London, it's a direct 11-hour flight — British Airways and Virgin fly direct. Aim to arrive Saturday 16 January if you want time to settle in before the weekend. January is peak season — book early.
We recommend renting a car for the drive up to Stellenbosch — take the N1, not the N2. Do not drive on the N2. Uber is also available if you prefer not to drive yourself, but please note there are no Ubers available late at night in the Winelands — pre-book a car before the evening if you need a lift home. Molenvliet Vineyards is on Banhoek Road, off the R310/Helshoogte Pass. Most GPS will find it easily. Parking is available on the estate.
Do not drink and drive. Sort your Tuesday evening transport home before the wedding day.
Peak summer in the Western Cape. Temperatures range from 20°C at night to 34°C in the afternoon. Expect long, sunny, golden days with very little rain. The South-Easter wind picks up in the afternoons in Cape Town but is less pronounced in the Winelands. Light fabrics throughout the weekend — it will be hot. The ceremony at Molenvliet is outdoors, so plan accordingly for footwear and sun protection.
South Africa uses the Rand (ZAR). As a rough guide: £1 ≈ R24 · €1 ≈ R20 · $1 ≈ R18 · R1 ≈ ₦84. Cards are accepted almost everywhere — restaurants, hotels, shops. ATMs are widely available in Stellenbosch and Cape Town. It's worth having a small amount of cash for tips and markets. Tipping 10–15% at restaurants is customary.
We're running a shuttle between the two venues — just follow the crowd after the ceremony. We're also organising shuttles back to nearby hotels after the evening so you can enjoy the night without worrying about getting home. Wednesday: make your way to Johannesdal for the pool party. Full shuttle details confirmed closer to the date.
We've arranged exclusive discount codes with four affiliated hotels close to both venues. Head to the for all the details and codes. Book direct — the discount codes won't work through third-party sites.
If you're flying long-haul, make a proper week of it. Cape Town is 45 minutes from Stellenbosch and genuinely one of the world's great cities in January — Table Mountain, Camps Bay, the V&A Waterfront, the Cape Peninsula. The Winelands are beautiful but Cape Town is where we'd tell you to spend a few extra days. Check our page for what we recommend.

How does Tuesday work across two venues?
Arrivals at Molenvliet Vineyards from 14:30 — please be seated by 15:15, as no entry is permitted after that. Ceremony at 15:30. Once it wraps, everyone transfers to Johannesdal 1207 — pre-drinks from 17:30, reception and dinner from 19:00, dancing from 21:30, then the after party (under 40s only). Transport between venues is organised. Full details to confirmed guests closer to the date.
What's the dress code?
Monday is Soft Summer Evening — smart casual, light fabrics, no white. Tuesday is Black Tie — black tuxedo or black suit for the gents (no exceptions), formal gowns for the ladies. Same dress code at both venues. Wednesday is Poolside Casual — swimsuit essential.
Who is the welcome dinner for?
The Monday welcome dinner is open to all guests. Arrive from 17:00 for a welcome drink, then we'll be seated for dinner at 18:00. A relaxed way to meet everyone before the big day.
Is the after party and pool party for everyone?
No — both are under 40s only. The after party follows the reception on Tuesday night. The pool party is a separate event from midday Wednesday. If you're invited, you already know.
Is the ceremony indoors or outdoors?
Outdoors at Molenvliet, with the Stellenbosch mountains as the backdrop. Worth thinking about footwear — heels on grass is a real consideration.
Can I take photos at the ceremony?
The ceremony is phone-free — we want everyone actually present. Our photographer has it covered. After the ceremony, phones out.
Dietary requirements?
Yes — add anything you need when you RSVP on WithJoy. If it's specific, reach out directly and we'll sort it.
Where should I stay?
We've arranged exclusive discount codes with several nearby properties. Head to the Accommodation page for the full list. Book early — January fills up fast.
Can I bring my kids?
We love your kids — but this one's for the grown-ups. Unless your child is already named on your invitation, we ask that you leave them at home for this one. We know that's not always easy to arrange, and we genuinely understand if it means you can't make it — we'll miss you. But if you can swing it, come.
Can I bring a plus one?
The guest list is intentional and unfortunately we can't add to it. If someone isn't named on your invitation, we're not able to accommodate them — this includes partners, friends, and family. We've kept it tight on purpose so everyone in the room is someone we truly want there.
Can I wear white?
Please, no. White — and anything that tries to be white (ivory, champagne, off-white, cream) — is the bride's. Pick literally any other colour and you'll look incredible. The dress code is Black Tie, so go bold, go beautiful, go anything-but-white.
What can I ask the bride on the day?
Two things: "Have you got a drink?" and "You look absolutely stunning." That's the full list. Anything logistics — transport, seating, timing, what time does it end — please go to Elizma Freeman, our planner (Theogundipes@iconceptsg.com). Teni is getting married that day, not running a help desk.
Transport and parking?
We will have a shuttle running between the two venues on the wedding day — you do not need to arrange that yourself. We're also organising shuttles back to nearby hotels after the evening, so you don't need to worry about getting home on the night. For getting to Stellenbosch from Cape Town, we recommend renting a car — take the N1, not the N2. Please do not drive on the N2. Note that Ubers are not available late at night in the Winelands, so pre-book a car before the evening if you need a lift home. Parking available at Molenvliet. Do not drink and drive.
